HISTORY OF VAUX.
The city of Vaux is located on an island of the same name in the Pacific Ocean. It was discovered in the 1900's but was not inhabited until 2020 when warfare had scarred most of the world. While the rest of the world was still easily inhabitable, a lot of wealthier folks decided to uproot to Vaux, where war - of the kind the world was used to - did not exist.
Initially, Vaux remained a small community and was built quickly by the folks who had money. Scientific and medical studies were abound, and by 2040, the island and city were both booming. That same year, a scientist by the name of Edgar Von Bayten started a medical study to eliminate disease. His hypothesis included adding foreign strains of DNA, belonging to particularly disease-resistant animals, to humans. These experiments quickly grew out of control, and instead of producing disease-free humans, produced the shifters. Initially, shifters were well confined and on the brink of extinction and extermination when they heard wind of the plans and escaped. They merged within the culture, unbranded and otherwise silent citizens of Vaux. Their children, however, were proud - unafraid of their abilities which were stronger than that of their parents. The new generation of shifters were more violent than the first, and often caused chaos. The city began to rebel against them as well, and shifters who were recognized were banned from the educational system, were blacklisted and unable to get jobs. Many shifters were forced to steal to survive, too proud to blend into the society that they once were able to hide in.
Steadily the number of shifters grew, and in 2090, Mayor Richardson campaigned into office. He began to hire hunters, forces who were sent to exterminate or capture the shifters that had overrun the city and were now causing significant damage. In retaliation, shifters began to form gangs to protect themselves from the hunters that Richardson had initiated. Now 2096, the hunters have become a part of everyday culture and the gangs have grown into power, causing a constant power struggle.
